Physician Initiated Research
Ultimate Strength Properties of Control and Explanted Silastic O and Silastic I Silicone Gel-filled Breast Implant Shells Print
Harold J. Brandon, Kenneth L. Jerina, Clarence J. Wolf, V.Leroy Young
Aesthetic Surgery Journal
September 1999 (Vol. 19, Issue 5, Pages 381-387)

Background

The effect of in vivo implantation on breast implants is important to both physicians and patients, but little information about the in vivo aging process of silicone gel-filled breast implants has appeared in the literature. The effects of the in vivo aging process could affect the durability of breast implants.

Cryopreservation of adipose tissues: The role of trehalose? Print

Lee L.Q. Pu, Xiangdong Cui, Betsy F. Fink, Michael L. Cibull, Dayong Gao
Aesthetic Surgery Journal
March 2005 (Vol. 25, Issue 2, Pages 126-131)

Background

Several studies have shown that one of the sugars, trehalose, can improve tissue survival after cryopreservation when combined with other cryoprotective agents, and thus may possibly be used in cryopreservation of adipose tissues that have been found more resistant to injury after freezing.

Silicone occlusive treatment of hypertrophic scar in the rabbit model Print

Alexandrina S. Saulis, Jerome D. Chao, Alvin Telser, Jon E. Mogford, Thomas A. Mustoe
Aesthetic Surgery Journal
March 2002 (Vol. 22, Issue 2, Pages 147-153)

Background

Hypertrophic scar formation at sites of healed cutaneous injury often produces functional and esthetic deficits. Treatments have been limited in part by a lack of understanding of scar etiology and the lack of animal models of hypertrophic scarring. Silicone dressing is reported to provide positive outcomes with respect to a reduction in scar hypertrophy and an improvement in color differences, although the exact mechanism is unknown.

“Corky and I contribute to plastic surgery research because we understand the need for funding to pave the way for new discoveries and to enhance patient safety."

"I am a long time member of the research committee. We are very frugal with how we apportion funds so I can assure you that your donation will be allotted wisely."
