Kenkel Receives Grant Print E-mail

The ASERF Scientific Research Committee and Board of Directors are pleased to announce the following grant award notification.

Researcher: Jeffrey Kenkel, MD

Grant Awarded: Allergan Foundation Breast and Cosmetic Medicine Grant

Amount Awarded: $25,000

Project Name: Effects of Facial Topical Lidocaine Application on Serum Levels of Lidocaine and MEG-X

Project Summary: Topical lidocaine is applied liberally in clinics and spas throughout the world. Despite this, there is little to no data describing the safe doses, toxicity, and clinical guidelines regarding the topical use of lidcocaine, particularly in a highly vascularized area such as the face. The primarily purpose is to examine the metabolism of 4% topical lidocaine (LMX-4) to determine peak serum levels, and common clinical treatment variables affecting absorption, as a means of increasing patient safety.

“I give knowing that ASERF is the research foundation arm of the Society, which has had a positive impact on my practice.

I believe that as plastic surgeons we have a commitment to advance our specialty and standards and making a gift to ASERF makes that possible.”
